COLORADO SPRINGS – It’s a cold case that has remained rife with mystery even 27 years later. On July 15, 1986, sometime after midnight, 7-month-old Christopher Abeyta was taken from his crib in his parents’ bedroom in their Cheyenne Hills home while they slept, never to be seen or heard from again.
Details of the case have since baffled investigators, including the fact that there was no forced entry or disturbance of anything else in the home at the time of the abduction. The Gazette Telegraph reported a day after the abduction that the front door of the home was left unlocked for one of the children who the family expected to return late that evening.
As time dragged on, the Abeyta family and the Colorado Spring Police Department spent thousands of dollars to find Christopher while suspicions grew.
